Shopping - Southern Lakes
Shopping with a view
Carcross Commons is a charming art hub near the shores of beautiful Lake Bennett, and is a must-stop for visitors to Carcross. Grab a snack or fresh latte and enjoy the view of the mountains across the lake. The shops and boutiques lining the open-air public space carry unique gifts, local art and handmade crafts. Mountain bikers bound for the amazing singletrack on Montana Mountain can stop in at the bike shop for gear, accessories and local tips on the trails. Part of the appeal of this unique shopping scene is the chance to chat with the locals, artists and artisans running the small shops and restaurants. Next door, Art House Carcross exhibits a wide range of Yukon artwork, and connects visitors directly with the numerous artists.
A short walk away, the White Pass & Yukon Route train station has a small gift shop carrying unique souvenirs commemorating the remarkable railway. Across the street sits the oldest operating store in the Yukon. Painted pink from top to bottom, the general store is a Carcross landmark. Along with interesting old memorabilia on display, there’s also local art, souvenirs and legendary ice cream cones.
Closer to the highway, travellers can stock up on road snacks and other necessities at the convenience store and gas station.
