The Yukon Quest is traditionally a 1,000 mile dog sled race that happens each year between Whitehorse, Yukon and Fairbanks, Alaska. This incredible event takes place in February when weather conditions can be the coldest and most unpredictable. Between 25 to 30 mushers sign up for the race from around the world, each with a team of 14 canine athletes to take them to the finish line.
The Yukon Quest starts on schedule regardless of weather and lasts 10 to 15 days until the final dog team arrives at the finish line. The race has taken place each year since 1984 through to 2020 over rough, sometimes hazardous terrain.
In 2021, the only Yukon Quest races were held in the Fairbanks, Alaska, area and in 2022, separate races were held in Alaska and the Yukon.
This winter, the Yukon Quest Sled Dog Race starts February 11th, 2023, and runs 450 miles from Whitehorse, Yukon to Dawson City, Yukon. Join us to watch top mushers and hundreds of elite canine athletes compete.
There are many opportunities to be involved either as a fan, visitor or volunteer.
