Traveller Quiz

The Yukon Traveller Quiz

You know what you like. We know the Yukon. Let’s work together.

It's not a crystal ball, but this quiz will give you the answers you're looking for. Get personalized information that'll make your trip extra magical.

Which activity sounds like the perfect start to your trip in the Yukon?

What is your sleep style when traveling?

Do you have the appropriate gear for a Yukon adventure?

Do you prefer being out in nature or exploring a city/town?

Who are your favourite people to travel with?

You seem to be…

Relaxed Traveller

You enjoy venturing out in nature, but your dream trip to the Yukon doesn’t stray too far from at least a few modern comforts. Your preference is to have the option to unwind and treat yourself rather than tackling gruelling hikes, but that doesn’t mean you want to miss out on iconic Yukon activities like the northern lights or midnight sun. Arts & culture are a focus and you seek out guided tours so you can learn about the territory’s land and heritage.

Curious Explorer

Your dream trip to the Yukon combines exploration of the unknown with down-to-earth comforts. Seeing the iconic landscape by any means possible is how you like to travel; car, hiking, dog sledding, horseback riding, mountain biking, you’ll do it all. Plus, you’re not shy to ask locals for recommendations. And when it comes to resting your weary feet, the unique lodgings on offer pique your interest.

Extreme Adventurer

You’re all about going off the beaten track and answering the call of the wild with a howl of your own. As a lover of the outdoors, you’ve planned your adventures ahead of time but are always looking to uncover the lesser known and one-of-a-kind activities that can be found by speaking to the locals. Breaking a sweat is how you roll, ride, ski or sled and at the end of a high octane day, you’re happy with a simple tent-pad in the heart of nature.

Over more than 50 years, Black Feather adventurers have paddled wilderness rivers, hiked remote landscapes, and sea kayaked along pristine coastlines and through sparkling fjords.

Black Feather’s Mission Statement is “to be Canada’s premier wilderness adventure company by providing adventurous, safe, environmentally friendly wilderness holidays for active individuals and small groups.”

Since 1972, Black Feather’s vision has been to offer sustainable, self-propelled trips by foot, canoe, sea kayak, ski and raft in unique wilderness locales. We work in a spirit of co-operation with our participants, local communities and suppliers. We are dedicated to exploring, interpreting and preserving our natural environment.

We explore the most outstanding northern destinations, from the world famous Nahanni River, to a remote fjord in Greenland, to Ellesmere’s Muskox Way – just 500 miles from the North Pole, as well as shorter warm-up and instructional trips and courses. To ensure you enjoy your wilderness experiences to the fullest, we offer trips suitable for all skill levels and can introduce you to new places, or to wilderness travel and camping in general to help you prepare for a northern trip in the future, or to just enjoy on its own!

Highly experienced guides bring a wealth of knowledge and skills to each trip. Our expedition gear is field tested and in some cases, custom designed for our rigorous standards.

Our meals are well known in the field … we literally wrote the book on wilderness cuisine: “Camp Cooking in the Wild – The Black Feather Guide to Eating Well in the Great Outdoors”.

Join us for your adventure of a lifetime!

A bow paddler takes a stroke on the left as the canoe float through gentle, clear water with a small amount of current, with light grey and brown treeless mountains in the background.

Experience the beauty and grandeur of the Wind River (Tr'ineeditr'aii nijk) wilderness. Float and paddle down crystal clear turquoise waters that sparkle like jewels the the colour of the Carribean, hike the easy to access surrounding mountains and get rewarded with stunning views of the upper watershed, and pass by local wildlife, from caribou, sheep and wolf to bear and peregrine falcon.

Alkan Air Single Otter prepares to take off of McCluskey Lake on the Wind River on a guided trip with Black Feather.
The Wind is only accessible by charter aircraft to McCluskey Lake. What a feeling to see the plane taxi away and take off, leaving the group deep in an incredible wilderness. How lucky we are!
Paddlers float in their canoes on a scenic flatwater section of the Wind River.
Canoeists on the Wind and Snake find the pace just right while on the water, with snack and stretch breaks allowing time to enjoy the surroundings and not just focus on the paddling! With experienced instructors as guides, they may just take home a paddling tip or two, as well!
A lone caribou high on a lush green bank above a lake, with barren mountains in the background
Wildlife abounds at the headwaters of the Snake River, where this lone caribou was spotted moving across the open, treeless landscape of Duo Lakes, where this fly-in only canoe trip begins.
