We are Whitehorse's home for the NORTHERN MOST SPRINT PADDLING CLUB IN NORTH AMERICA! Located at the Schwatka Lake Day Use Area on Chadburn Lake Road, we deliver a variety of programming all throughout the year for all abilities and ages. Flatwater North is an affiliate club under the Flatwater Paddling Yukon Society, the territorial sport governing body. We offer recreational and competitive paddling programs and training opportunities for youth and adults throughout the year.
What is Dragonboating? Fully loaded, a full size dragon boat seats 20 paddlers, a steersperson at the rear of the boat and a drummer who sits at the front of the boat and beats out the stroke. A mini dragon boat seats 10, plus the steersperson and the drummer. The boats themselves come in various designs and colours. During large regattas a dragon head and tail are traditionally mounted on the boat.
Standard races are 200m, 500m, and 2000 metres long. Typically, a good mixed team finishes a 500m race in under 2 minutes. The 2000m races usually last between 10 and 15 minutes.
Intro to Dragonboat We are excited to introduce our new program, Introduction to dragonboat! Dragonboating is a thrilling water sport that combines teamwork, endurance, and strength. Our program is designed for individuals who are new to dragonboating and want to learn the basics of this exciting sport.
During the program, participants will receive expert coaching from experienced dragonboat paddlers. They will learn the proper paddling technique, how to synchronize their strokes with the team, and develop their overall fitness and stamina. Our knowledgeable instructors will guide participants through a series of drills and exercises to enhance their dragonboating skills.
The Introduction to Dragonboat program is open to people of all fitness levels and ages. Whether you are a seasoned athlete looking to try something new or a beginner seeking a fun and challenging activity, this program is perfect for you. No prior experience is required, and all equipment will be provided.
