Which activity sounds like the perfect start to your trip in the Yukon?

What is your sleep style when traveling?

Do you have the appropriate gear for a Yukon adventure?

Do you prefer being out in nature or exploring a city/town?

Who are your favourite people to travel with?

You seem to be…

Relaxed Traveller

You enjoy venturing out in nature, but your dream trip to the Yukon doesn’t stray too far from at least a few modern comforts. Your preference is to have the option to unwind and treat yourself rather than tackling gruelling hikes, but that doesn’t mean you want to miss out on iconic Yukon activities like the northern lights or midnight sun. Arts & culture are a focus and you seek out guided tours so you can learn about the territory’s land and heritage.

Curious Explorer

Your dream trip to the Yukon combines exploration of the unknown with down-to-earth comforts. Seeing the iconic landscape by any means possible is how you like to travel; car, hiking, dog sledding, horseback riding, mountain biking, you’ll do it all. Plus, you’re not shy to ask locals for recommendations. And when it comes to resting your weary feet, the unique lodgings on offer pique your interest.

Extreme Adventurer

You’re all about going off the beaten track and answering the call of the wild with a howl of your own. As a lover of the outdoors, you’ve planned your adventures ahead of time but are always looking to uncover the lesser known and one-of-a-kind activities that can be found by speaking to the locals. Breaking a sweat is how you roll, ride, ski or sled and at the end of a high octane day, you’re happy with a simple tent-pad in the heart of nature.

10 Yukon Summer Events You Shouldn’t Miss in 2026

Discovery Day celebrations in Dawson City
Share

Summer up North hits different. One minute you're shoveling your driveway in May, and the next, you’re basking in the midnight sun wondering if you’ll ever sleep again. But honestly, who needs sleep when the Yukon comes alive with this much energy?

From thrilling races and big-mile adventures that make your pulse race, to laid-back festivals where all you need is a lawn chair and some love for fiddle music, this corner of the world truly knows how to celebrate under the endless sun.

If you’re mapping out your Yukon summer, these 10 events need to be at the top of your list. Each one captures the wild, wonderful, and offbeat spirit of the North. Make sure you catch these incredible experiences during your visit!

Fireweed Community Market

Looking for the true pulse of Whitehorse in the summer? Want to know where the community comes together every week? The Fireweed Market at Shipyards Park is our beloved Thursday ritual. It’s so much more than a place to buy your vegetables.

Food trucks at the Fireweed Community Market

This is where you taste the best food truck creations, discover incredible work by local artisans, and run into friends around every corner. The air hums with live music and happy chatter. Strolling through the market on a sunny afternoon is the perfect way to feel the warm, creative, and delicious spirit of our city.

Every Thursday May 14th - September 24th, 2026

Kluane Chilkat International Bike Relay

Every June, the road between Haines Junction, Yukon, and Haines, Alaska, becomes a moving ribbon of cyclists. Teams of 2, 4, or 8 (or solo riders, you maniacs) relay their way through some of the most jaw-dropping mountain scenery on the planet.

We’re talking coastal rainforests, alpine passes, and ocean views all in one day. The best part? The camaraderie. Everyone is suffering together, laughing together, and eventually celebrating together at the finish line in Haines with a massive seafood feast.

Dawson City Music Festival

If there is a holy grail of Yukon summer festivals, this might be it. For one weekend in July, the population of Dawson City explodes as music lovers descend upon "Canada’s Tiny Perfect Festival." The magic of DCMF isn't just the lineup, though the artists are always stellar. It’s the setting.

You’re watching bands play in historic gold rush buildings, under a big top tent on the grass, and sometimes just on a street corner. The vibe is intimate and unpretentious. You might find yourself dancing next to the lead singer of the band you just watched. It’s Dawson at its quirky, welcoming best.

Discovery Days in Dawson

August in Dawson City brings Discovery Days, a celebration of the gold strike that put this place on the map. But don't expect a dry history lesson. This is Dawson, after all. Expect a parade that feels wonderfully homemade, complete with can-can dancers, muddy trucks, and local characters.

There are walking tours, arts festivals, and usually a few events involving the Sourtoe Cocktail (look it up if you dare). It’s a weekend that honours the chaos and optimism of the Klondike Gold Rush, wrapped up in a modern-day community celebration that feels like a big family reunion.

Moosehide Gathering

Just downriver from Dawson City lies Moosehide, a traditional Hän site. Every two years, the Tr'ondëk Hwëch'in host a gathering that welcomes everyone to celebrate Indigenous culture. It’s a profound experience. You take a boat down the river to get there, leaving the modern world behind.

Feasts, drumming, singing, and dancing fill the weekend. It’s not a show put on for tourists; it’s a genuine sharing of traditions and hospitality. The atmosphere is respectful, joyful, and deeply grounded. It’s a privilege to attend and a beautiful way to connect with the First Nations heritage of the territory.

Kluane Mountain Bluegrass Festival

Love the sound of a banjo under a big sky? How about some foot-stomping tunes at the foot of giant mountains? The Kluane Mountain Bluegrass Festival in Haines Junction delivers just that. It brings world-class musicians to the edge of Kluane National Park, and the combination is breathtaking.

Imagine listening to intricate harmonies and lightning-fast solos while gazing at snow-capped peaks that scrape the sky. The main stage is fantastic, but the real soul of the festival is found in the spontaneous jam sessions that pop up in the campgrounds. It's pure, wholesome fun that perfectly complements the rugged, majestic landscape.

Yukon Gold Panning Championships

Think you have what it takes to strike it rich? Or at least, to pan faster than anyone else? Head to Dawson City for the Yukon Gold Panning Championships and connect with the very heart of Klondike history. This isn’t just a hobby; it’s a surprisingly intense sport.

Watching the pros swirl their pans with focused precision is captivating. Better yet, why not get your own hands dirty? There’s no better place to learn the art of finding that telltale glimmer. Feel the satisfying grit of gravel in your pan and the thrill of the hunt. It’s a fun, hands-on way to touch the legend of the gold rush.

Atlin Arts & Music Festival

Okay, technically Atlin is in British Columbia. But try telling a Yukoner that. Atlin is our lakeside cottage country, and their music festival is pure magic. The drive itself is beautiful, but when the glaciated peaks appear over the impossibly blue Atlin Lake, you’ll know you’ve arrived somewhere special.

This is the ultimate laid-back, family-friendly gathering. Music drifts on the breeze as you wander through displays of incredible local art, with the mountains watching over you. It’s less about the party and more about the peace. Grab a spot on the grass, let the kids run free, and just soak it all in.

Yukon River Quest

Ready to witness something truly epic? How about seeing what humans are made of? The Yukon River Quest is not just a race; it's a 715-kilometre paddling odyssey from Whitehorse to Dawson City. They call it the Race to the Midnight Sun, and it’s a legendary test of endurance and spirit.

You can feel the sheer grit as competitors battle exhaustion and the vast wilderness. Cheering from the riverbank as they set off in Whitehorse, or welcoming the weary finishers in Dawson, connects you to a story of raw, human determination. It’s an inspiring spectacle, set against a backdrop of untamed beauty.

Paradise Electronic Music Festival

Think you need a city for a good dance party? What if we told you the best beats are found in the bush? Paradise is an electronic music festival held at a remote wilderness location, proving that Yukoners know how to rave right. It's an intimate, high-energy gathering for those who want to dance until the sun comes up.

The experience is surreal. Lasers and light shows flash through the forest, turning the trees into a natural cathedral of sound and light. It’s a vibrant, pulsing counterpoint to the quiet wilderness surrounding it. This is your chance to trade the concrete jungle for a boreal forest dance floor under the midnight sun.
